WASHINGTON, DC--Today, President Obama will sign a proclamation to increase the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument, located southwest of Hawaii. The expansion will grow the monument to six times its original size, creating 370,000 square nautical miles of protection in the south-central Pacific Ocean. Originally established by George W. Bush in 2009, the monument consists of seven uninhabited islands or atoll complexes: Wake, Jarvis, Howland and Baker Islands, Johnston Atoll, Kingman Reef and Palmyra Atoll.
